Most of Big Sur's stunning coastline is reservations-only when it comes to campgrounds, and those reservations get made a year in advance. If you're someone who doesn't plan your weekends that far ahead, check out Andrew Molera State Park. Campsites here are first-come, first-served, so if you have a friend who's willing to show up midday on Friday you're pretty much guaranteed a spot. The sites are within walking distance to a really nice beach, complete with the occasional horse and plenty of driftwood forts to play in. This is a great way to experience the natural beauty of Big Sur without stressing yourself out.
