Marin is becoming more closed to dogs every year, it seems, but Rodeo Beach is still a great place to don your skimpiest swimsuit and take your dog for a run in front of any beach bunnies that may be hanging around. One of Marin's few off-leash areas, it's also one of the best: stunning views, kelp to roll in, pelicans to fruitlessly chase and a lack of crowds makes this a great beach all on its own. There are also trails you can hike to work up a nice sweat before you get to the beach, if you choose. You can surf this beach, but keep a weather eye out for sharks.
