You may find this hard to believe, but if you're looking for a floor show you could not do better than to attend one of the meetings of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
It's not just that all the Supervisors care deeply about their work. It's that they're willing to argue with one another, often getting personal in their enthusiasm to shout one another down. At times it's sort of like watching a cartoon about city governance, except when the shouting matches are over they do a pretty good job running this burgh.
If that doesn't appeal, show up for the Public Comment section of the meetings, when members of the public have free reign to voice their opinions. The passion of your friends and neighbors is an inspiring thing, and the dedication of the Board is a great antidote to your election-year blues. You might even find you're inspired to say something yourself.
