The Tamale Lady

The Tamale Lady is more than a local character; she's a local institution. Her name is Virginia Ramos, but to most San Franciscans she is simply the Tamale Lady: the wonderful sight for drunk eyes who shows up anywhere from Zeitgeist happy hour to movie nights at Dolores Park, hawking the best homemade tamales in the city.

And people love her, they LOVE her. They adore and respect her. Not only will she sell you a nice warm tamale, the atmosphere changes when she enters a room or gathering. People start smiling. People start being nicer. The Tamale Lady is like a delicious gift from the gods, and at $3 a pop, this is a gift you don't want to miss.
