Mission District Hotspots
The Mission District is the best place to see hipsters in their natural element. It's also home to a vibrant Latino community. Basically, the neighborhood is at that stage of gentrification where you can still find lots of low-end thrift stores, but most of them carry very cool clothing. Bring your date to the Mission only if you want to eat really good food, find hip outfits, and dive into the diviest bars without ever breaking your personal bank. Good opening lines in the Mission include:
"I like your vintage [insert clothing item]."
"Don't you love the super-cheap rent here?"
"This place is okay, but I know a cooler one on 24th Street." (24th Street is a bit grottier than, say, 18th Street. Anything you find there is automatically cooler.)
"Doesn't gentrification suck?"
Enjoy this week's tour of the Mission!
The Castro Collection
Whether you're looking for a leisurely brunch, an afternoon of shopping, a gourmet dinner or a hip bar scene, the Castro has it all. Long recognized as the world's most famous LGBT neighborhood, the 'Stro has a rich and active community that brings it to life, and no visit to SF is complete without a stop here. Check out this list of Castro-riffic activities to get you started on your tour.
